Father's Day Comedy Night at Scarborough Masonic Temple

Need a laugh on Father's Day?

Scarborough Masonic Temple Corp. hosting Stand-Up Comedy Night on June 20

Russell Roy, a well-known professional stand-up comic, says there's never been a better time to come to a comedy night. “The recession has made it “a tough year, and moods can get gloomy”, Roy notes, “who couldn't use a good laugh, so what better way than with a stand-up Comedy Night?”

Roy is the organizer of "Laughter at the Lodge” Comedy Night - a traveling stand up comedy showcase that will be playing the banquet room at the Scarborough Temple on June 20 at 5 PM.

"I'm very excited," he said of the planned comedy night, located within the Masonic Temple. “They have a lovely banquet room & it holds about 300 people”.

Under the direction of Jim McKinnon Jr. [the Chair for event], the show takes place at 7:00 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are an affordable $ 20 (in advance) & $22 per person (at the door), with the net proceeds going toward the new hall that is under development. It's also an outreach event - helping attract new members.

"Our headline comedians play all over the country, and internationally," he said. "These are guys who have top notch resumes - they've been on The Comedy Network, in big festivals, and in films and TV commercials, etc. It's not going to be amateur night, that’s for sure & we’re working ‘clean’, so no foul language to offend. It won’t be fitlhy, but it will be funny.”

"My feeling is that people shouldn't have to travel all the way to Downtown Toronto to see great stand-up comedy acts," he added. "I think its great to present fantastic live stand-up comedy, with some of the profits going back to benefit the membership."

Roy spends his weekdays promoting his corporate comedy act (visit www.russellroy.net) - and many evenings doing stand-up comedy on the road, all over the province. Over the last 15 years, Roy has played in the U.K, and has opened for some pretty big names in the business, like Russell Peters, and many others.

"I like to emcee because you go on first, get to interact with the crowd a bit, and work ‘off the cuff”, and then I do a little material & bring up the other acts," Roy said. "The emcee’s job is to get people loosened up and laughing. Talking to the crowd is as fun for me, as it is for the audience."

Headliners Stand-Up Comedy Night

Stand-Up For The East Toronto Temple

Toronto, Sept 25, 2009 – The board of the East Toronto Temple are proud to announce hilarious Stand-Up Comic Headliner Jim McAleese www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb91bWTKUZU - performing with Russell Roy www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y-sixz127A and special guests, in the weekly special event “The Sunday Night Social”.

First show is Sunday Nov 8th, 2009 at 15 Chisholm Ave. Doors open at 7 P.M, show starts at 8 P.M. All are welcome, and encouraged to attend. Seating is limited to 166 & the show is expected to sell out. Tickets are only $ 5.00 at the door.

Jim McAleese has been phenomenally popular all across Canada since he first went on stage in 1979. His TV appearances on the CBC’s Winnipeg Comedy Festival, CBC’s Comics! A&E’s Evening at the Improv, Open Mike! with Mike Bullard, CBC Radio’s “Madly Off in All Directions”, Comedy at Club 54, Corner Gas and The Winnipeg Comedy Festival on CBC over the years, have led to an extended run as one of this country’s funniest, and most genuine “clean” stand up comedy performers.

He has appeared in the best comedy clubs and theatres, here in Canada, the US, and in Europe, often receiving multiple applause breaks in one show. He’ll perform his brand of “no profanity” stand up comedy show on Sunday Nov 8th with support act Russell Roy, and special guests.

Jim McAleese has been entertaining audiences around the world, in a variety of ways for over twenty nine years, but its making people laugh at a live performance in an intimate venue, that Jim enjoys most of all. “I talk about my life,” he says. “It is the funniest thing I can think of. For some reason, people enjoy hearing about all my trials and tribulations.”

Born in Toronto, Ontario, Jim has always had a gift for sharing laughter. When he learned that he could actually make a living from doing stand-up comedy, Jim left behind his life as a radio announcer at Q-107, and began his comedy career. It wasn’t long before he was touring the best comedy clubs across Canada. Jim got a big break when he was asked to perform nationally on The Alan Thicke Show on CTV. Since then he has become a regular writer for The NHL Awards on CBC, The Gemini Awards, the Genies, and the Canadian Sport Awards.

On TV, he appeared on CBC Comics! A&E’s Evening at the Improv, Comedy at Club 54, the Family Channel series Radio Free Roscoe, YTV’s System Crash, Doc starring Billy Ray Cyrus and CTV’s Corner Gas. Film credits include Frequency starring Dennis Quaid.

Warm up comedian and Emcee Russell Roy is known for his charming stage persona. He has risen to be one of the most sought after stand-up comics working today. Russell tells one-liners that everyone can identify with, and he is often known to drop his ‘act’ to ad-lib with members the crowd.

Roy jokes most often about the humorous side of family life, and current events. The warm reception for his brand of stand-up comedy has led to live appearances at service club fundraisers and corporate events all over Canada, and in the United Kingdom.
